No funding this year for Stittsville public high school

Ontario’s Ministry of Education approved funding to build or renovate seven schools in the Ottawa area, but a public high school for Stittsville was not included.

From Stittsville OCDSB High School Facebook page:

The funding announcement by the Minister yesterday in Ottawa came as a surprise to many, including councillors and trustees, as it was much earlier than expected, perhaps politically-driven. There were many other worthy projects, but we are nevertheless very disappointed in the process and the result. Our “business case” for a new school is weakened in the eyes of the Province because so many students are choosing Sacred Heart over South Carleton, skewing the numbers as to the true need for a non-denominational high school within our booming community.

Thank you to all of you who wrote in to share your stories and to help us lobby the Board and the Province. We did make progress because of it, and it is our hope and intention to make even more progress next year, with full funding being the goal! The OCDSB will be coming up with a new system for prioritizing capital projects for the next round, so we will be participating all we can in that consultation process – we hope that you will all again step up to the plate as you already have to assist in the cause! We continue to need all the support we can get! We will of course keep everyone posted as the next steps reveal themselves…
