Three new options for Huntmar-Maple Grove intersection

On October 30 the Fairwinds Community Association met with Councillor Qadri and City of Ottawa staff to discuss a number of traffic safety issues, including the Huntmar-Maple Grove intersection.  City staff committed to consulting with our community on possible new lane configurations.  Here are three possible options.

We would appreciate your comments – please send a note to info@fairwindscommunity.com and let us know your preferred option, or if you prefer the current configuration, or if you would like to see something else altogether.

Keep in mind that any option the City implements has to balance a number of factors including traffic flow (in all directions), pedestrian safety, bike safety, and constraints at the intersection such as the narrow width of the roadway.

Below are the three options that are being presented by the traffic management department in relation to the line painting/mitigation of traffic at the intersection of Huntmar Drive and Maple Grove Road.  These options have been established based on concerns that were brought forward to my office regarding the lane markings at the south east corner of the intersection.  I would appreciate your review and consideration of each option.  Please email me if you have any questions or concerns.

Option 1

Shared left through lane and exclusive right turn lane with no bike lane.

Option 2 Shared north bound left/ through/right lane

Option 3
Shared north bound left/through/right lane with dedicated north bound bike lane. This option reflects the north bound approach when the intersection is operated with stop control for all direction
